Interpreter, translator, lawyer
Luca Canuto
Trained as a translator and interpreter, after receiving my high school diploma in foreign languages, I graduated in 1998 from the renowned Translation and Interpreting University of Trieste with full marks in French, Dutch/Flemish and English.
I entered the translation and interpreting market in 1998 with my first experience as an in-house translator/proof-reader with some well-known translation agencies in Milan, specialising in the legal, financial and advertising fields. This initial experience proved to be crucial as it afforded me an “insider’s” view of how the translation market operated, as well as giving me an understanding of what the specific needs of clients were and which the most effective methods were in meeting these.
Armed with this knowledge, I then went on to work as a freelancer. I am heavily involved in interpreting work, which is carried out in different contexts.
Together with this work, I have also built up considerable experience in translation, especially with regard to the legal field; where I work with law firms and notary practices on a regular basis, as well as the legal departments of several companies.
My professional activity also includes teaching: from 2002 to 2015 I was a professor at Civica Scuola Interpreti e Traduttori Altiero Spinelli of Milano, where I teached language mediation and simultaneous and consecutive interpreting and since 2019 I have been a professor at Limec University of Milan, where I teach introduction to interpreting, community interpreting and consecutive interpreting.
I am a member of Assointerpreti and AITI.
Dario Mazzardo
After graduating in Law in 2004 from the State University of Milan – specialising in European-International Law – and before beginning work in the legal field, I spent some time in Dublin (Ireland). I could improve my language skills during the time spent in Ireland, where I attended some specialist courses. I then began working with a leading law firm in Milan, which specialised predominantly in Intellectual Property Law and International Law.
As part of this experience, I could further improve my English language skills, as I was in a position to gain experience in the concepts relating to the specific terminology used in the legal field. I have been a member of the Milan Bar Association since 29.01.2009.
My legal experience ranges from the purely theoretical – acquired during my university studies, directed mainly at furthering my knowledge of European Union Law and (Private and Public) International Law – to the more practical, namely in Intellectual Property Law, gained during my time working at the law firm. My training has extended to include attending a Masters’ course on Contract drafting and a highly specialised Masters’ course on Company Law.
From 2014 to 2016 I developped on line courses for lawyers’ continuing vocational training that are recognised by the Italian Bar Association, specifically on Intellectual Property Law.
Since 2019 I have been a professor at Limec University of Milan, where I currently teach Intellectual Property Law and Community Interpreting in Legal Affairs and Administration, and in Social Affairs and Healthcare; at Limec I previously taught International Law (International Organizations Law, Analysis and Planning of Peace-keeping Operations and International Humanitarian Law). Since 2023 I have been a professor at Civica Scuola Interpreti e Traduttori Altiero Spinelli of Milan, where I currently teach International Law and Public Law; at Civica Scuola Altiero Spinelli I previously taught European Union Law.
